ABODA Living wins Manchester Architects awards
The UK Pavilion at this year’s Milan Expo, delivered by BDP’s Manchester office, has won the top prize at the relaunched Manchester Architects Awards
Designed with artist Wolfgang Buttress, the ‘impressive, playful and intriguing project’ scooped both the Building of the Year and Best Completed Community Building titles at a packed ceremony in the People’s History Museum last Thursday (4 June).
There were also wins for AHR’s Blackpool Council Offices (AJ 04.12.14), which was named the best built commercial development, and Buttress’ unbuilt residential scheme in Chapel Street, Salford (AJ 31.03.15) at the rebadged accolades – formerly the Manchester Society of Architect awards.
Newcomers Aboda Living – founded by former stephenson:ISA architect partner Justin Risley – took home the prize for the best one-off house [unbuilt] while GA Studio Architects’ Passivhaus 1109 won a trio of gongs including the sustainability prize.
